I can find a positive aspect: incompleteness forces you to accept your limits and leads you to do a great job on yourself.

If I tell you Unfinished what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

The unfinished of the last phase of my professional career: I was not able to continue with the high standard I cared about and I had to interrupt it. I should have to go to work in Cremona or Milan where there were institutions that could have supported me, but I had an unstable family situation and I hoped to be able to realize my projects here. I found myself at 55 with a lot of energy channelled only on activities that did not completely gratify me and I decided to put an end to my career in order not to give up in terms of quality. In Italy, unlike in Nordic countries, music therapy is still little known and innovative discipline.

 Unfinished what colour/shape is it?

A shape with rounded and indefinite lines and colour between light blue and dark blue.

Is there something you have left undone in your life?

One thing that I consider unfinished, but which lets me see glimpses for the future, is the renovation of the old family house and garden on the hill of La Spezia. On the other hand, as far as my career is concerned, at almost 62 years old, I don’t have many expectations, even if I have carried out some more projects lately, it was more to help a colleague than for myself.

Emotions?

At the beginning there is the anger, then follows a burst of energy that leads me to throw myself on other things. The idea of renting rooms to tourists took me to a totally different dimension. I started in 2009 when I was still working as a music therapist, I only did it in the summer as a hobby and pleasure, then it turned into an income.

 Long live the unfinished because…

I can’t say “long live”. I can find a positive aspect: incompleteness forces you to accept your limits and leads you to do a great job on yourself. The unfinished brings frustration, if you learn to accept it you live better, you make peace with yourself.

When is a project completed for you?

The fact that a project is unfinished or completed starts from your inner feeling. For what is my nature, I have always followed my passions. I have always worked in the creative field and tried to do things without setting deadlines. Projects evolved and could grow by adding activities, changing methods, contours, but I have never thought of setting a limit. The limit comes from the confrontation with external reality that contrasts your inner motion. The project is completed when you feel that the motivation – that led you to invest most of your energy in that thing to fight for a certain result – fails. You feel that it is no longer a thing. It is no longer worth investing your energies. You are the first to not believe in it and therefore you cannot convince others.

3 words that you would match with unfinished?

Frustration, limitation, discovery.
